How to play online slots

Slots need no strategy. You choose a stake, press spin and the game does the rest. What separates a good session from a short one is everything you decide before that first spin.

Start in demo mode

Almost every slot has a free version with play money and no sign-up. A hundred demo spins tell you more about a game than any review: how often it pays, how long the dry spells last, how hard the bonus round is to reach. Our slots page has several demos you can launch straight away.

Read the screen

The reels sit in the middle, usually five columns of three symbols. Around them you will find your balance, your total bet per spin and a button for the paytable or info screen. That screen lists what each symbol pays, which ones trigger the features and, on most games, the RTP. Read it once before you play for money.

Size your bets to your budget

Minimum stakes run from €0.10 to €0.20 on most modern games. The rule of thumb is a hundred spins or more per session: with €50, that means €0.20 to €0.50 a spin. Bigger bets do not improve your odds. They only make the session shorter.

Know the features

Wilds stand in for other symbols. Scatters pay anywhere on the reels and usually trigger free spins, where multipliers or expanding symbols often come into play. Some games add a pick-and-win bonus round. On high-volatility slots, most of the game's return is locked inside these features, which is why they can feel quiet for long stretches.

Stop on time

Set a loss limit and a time limit before you start. When you hit either one, close the game. Raising your stake to win back a loss is the oldest trap in gambling, and the slot does not know or care that you are down.
